〰️ Creative Currents: Quirks
Published about 2 months ago • 1 min read
Hi Reader,
The other day, a colleague in my writing community introduced himself with a fun fact: he speaks Alien. Not a usual skill on a résumé, right?
He even admitted, “Hope you don’t think I’m nuts.”
But aren't we all a little kookoo sometimes?

INSPIRATION STATION
Harvesting Olives
Recently, I stayed at a place in Greece surrounded by olive trees. Their deep, earthy colors had me hooked, so I harvested a few, curious about the next steps. Fun fact: olives straight from the tree are a no-go (don’t try it)! They need curing—an age-old process that takes days. It’s quirky and a bit of a nerdy project, but that’s half the fun. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Pattern Play
Shadows & Twigs
I have a fascination with plant shadows. They’re fleeting and abstract, but something about the way sunlight hits them draws me in. My latest pattern turned those shadow shapes of olive trees and lavender twigs into something new. It’s an unexpected mix—quirky but refreshing. Sometimes, combining the unusual makes all the difference.

Design Toolbox
Pinterest With a Twist
For a bit of creative inspiration, I love diving into Pinterest—but not by searching for “patterns.” Instead, I browse architecture, interior designs, and photography, stumbling on motifs in unexpected places. I recently came across some quirky DIYs that made me think of Jackson Pollock. Time to embrace a little “alien” energy, splash some color, and get hands-on. When was the last time you tried something playful and outside the box?

Fuel Your Flow
Bathe in Your Kookoo
Rather than brushing quirky ideas aside, I lean into them—they bring out the creative play and help quiet that inner critic. So often, our own judgment holds us back from trying new things. Embracing your quirks can be so freeing and lead to the best innovations. So, what’s your “kookoo” trait? Maybe it’s time to celebrate it!

Sharing quirks feels vulnerable, so I posted my own 5-step process there.
