〰️ Creative Currents: What Makes a Home?

Hi Reader,

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what it really means to feel at home. Is it a place? The people? Maybe a collection of memories tied to a certain space? Having just moved somewhere new, I’m realizing that “home” can take time to build, and it’s more about the feelings we nurture than the physical space itself.

What does it take to truly feel at home?

Home sweet home. Welcome back home. Driving home... Even when I don't quite feel homey, I know I'm going to get there.

INSPIRATION STATION

The Art of Amoako Boafo

The exhibit Proper Love at the Lower Belvedere in Vienna features Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo’s powerful paintings. Boafo, who paints with both brushes and his fingers, often uses patterned paper as part of his art. His works portray friends, acquaintances, and himself — black people exclusively — capturing an empowering sense of connection and identity. Visiting the exhibit gave me a surge of creative energy and a reminder of how “home” can mean reconnecting with what feels true to ourselves.

Pattern Play

Lady

A new pattern, Lady, is emerging as I experiment with a few details. The inspiration came from an old 1900s building in Vienna, where I saw a beautifully carved motif that struck me instantly. Ornamental details in architecture feel like a nod to the past, like pieces of history that remain steady even as time moves on. These details bring me comfort, a reminder of care and dedication—qualities that bring any space a little closer to feeling like home.

The Motif

Looking up rather than at our phones can reveal little wonders we often overlook. You might just spot hidden gems in familiar streets that make the place feel more like home.

Fuel Your Flow

Go Offline

While the internet is packed with resources and inspiration, it can be a major distraction, nudging us into endless scrolling. Try going offline for a few hours—maybe each morning until midday. See if this allows you to connect more with your space and rediscover those small things that bring you joy and comfort.

Let me know what simple things brought joy to you this week —I’d love to hear! Just hit reply and share your thoughts.

Yours,
