Is More Really More? 〰️ Creative Currents

Hi Reader,

The last few days have been a whirlwind. Along with the souvenir from his recent business trip (see below!), my man brought home the dreaded Man Cold. Between taking care of him and juggling my to-do list, life got messy and busy—very on theme for this week's topic: More is More.

Despite the chaos, I've been working on something very exciting. It's not quite ready, yet, but you'll be the first to know. All I can say is that it's something that can make your life as a surface pattern designer easier ;)

This year’s interior design mantra, More is More, has got me thinking: Is more always better, or is there a sweet spot where busy becomes beautiful? Let’s explore that together.

💡

INSPIRATION STATION

The Good Old Magazine

Sometimes, it's as simple as browsing a fashion magazine to find inspiration. While flipping through a fashion magazine, I noticed a resurgence of bold, maximalist interiors. Think clashing patterns, vibrant colors, and layered textures. It’s exciting—but also a little intimidating. I’ve been a minimalist at heart, but this trend is tempting me to step out of my comfort zone. What about you? Do you lean towards simplicity, or do you embrace the thrill of more?

Pattern Play

Busy & Bewildered

Inspired by an enchanted Tuscan mountain village near Lucca, this pattern celebrates the beauty of abundance. With intricate details and a vibrant palette, it’s my attempt to capture the spirit of more. I wasn’t sure it was “me” at first, but sometimes, leaning into the unfamiliar can lead to surprising results. If you’re hesitant to try a busier style, give it a shot—it might just expand your creative horizons.

Designer's Toolbox

The Automatic Customer

One of the things that I've been looking into lately is revenue automation. Only after reading The Automatic Customer, I realized how many different automation strategies are out there. This book is packed with examples of how to create recurring revenue streams, which can free up your time for more creative pursuits. If you’re curious about making your business work smarter, not harder, this one’s for you.

Fuel Your Flow

3 Weekly Priorities

To keep my weeks manageable, I rely on my three-weekly-priorities system. Each day, I check in with myself and rate their progress:

  • 🫒 Green: Going great!
  • 🍋 Yellow: Needs attention.
  • 🍒 Red: Time for action!

It’s a simple yet effective way to stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, the emojis make it instantly more fun.

What does more mean to you—more color, more layers, or maybe just more time to create? Hit reply and share—I’d love to hear.

Yours,

Alyssa-Ninja
